SPONSOR MY OTHER RELATIVES
For the sponsorship of other family members and relatives (other than spouse/partner and dependent children), Immigration Canada offers you two options for who you can sponsor as relatives:
1. Sponsor orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild:You can sponsor an orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild that are related to you by blood or adoption, only if they meet these conditions:
- Both their mother and father passed away
- hey are under 18 years of age, not married or in a common-law or conjugal relationship.
You may sponsor one (1) relative, related to you by blood or adoption, of any age, if you, the potential sponsor, meet these two conditions:
- You don't have a living relative you could sponsor instead, such as a spouse, children, parents, grandparents, orphaned (brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild);
- you do not have any relatives (parents, grand parents, children, siblings, orphaned (brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild), aunt or uncle who is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or registered Indian under the Indian Act.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS TO SPONSOR MY SIBLINGS AND OTHER RELATIVES:
To sponsor other relatives to become Canadian permanent residents, you the sponsor should :
- Be at least 18 years old, Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act.
- Live in Canada.
- Meet set income guidelines.
- Be able to provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor.
- Gave the financial support you agreed to with immigration Canada when you signed a sponsorship agreement to sponsor someone else in the past.
- Have paid back (if applicable), an immigration loan, a performance bond
- Not be receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability.
- Have paid your alimony or child support payments.
- Have been released from bankruptcy if applicable.
- Not have been convicted of a violent criminal offence, any offence against a relative or any sexual offence inside or outside Canada.
