POST GRADUATION WORK PERMIT (PGWP)


Students who applied for or held a study permit before 1 November 2024 will remain eligible for a PGWP under the existing rules. However, students applying for a study permit on or after this date will be subject to the new guidelines ( you must have graduated a bachelor's degree, master's degree , doctoral or other diploma ( college or other university diploma) in an eligible field of study).
What is a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) ?
The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is for international students who wish to gain work experience in Canada after completing their studies. It allows eligible graduates to work for any employer in Canada and acquire valuable professional experience that can support their application for permanent residence.

PGWP Eligibility
To be eligible for a PGWP, you must:
  • Have completed a full-time study program of at least 8 months at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada;
  • Obtain a recognized diploma, certificate or degree ;
  • Prove your language skills in English or French with a CLB level 7 or higher in English or French in the 4 language skills, if you have a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree ;
  • Have obtained a degree in an eligible field of study and CLB level 7 or higher in English or French, If you graduated with another university program ;
  • Have obtained a diploma in an eligible field of study and CLB level 5 or higher in English or French, if your diploma is from a college or other non-university study program;
  • Hold a valid study permit a one point during the 180 days after you graduated ;
  • Apply for your PGWP within 180 days of receiving your final transcript or letter of graduation.
A flight school graduate must hold a Canadian commercial pilot's license or have obtained, or be in the process of obtaining, an instructor's rating and a job offer as a flight instructor from a flight training center and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
