WHO CAN APPLY FOR OPEN WORK PERMIT FOR VULNERABLE WORKERS?
You can apply for an Open Work Permit for vulnerable workers if you meet the following three requirements:
  • You are inside Canada.
  • You hold a valid work permit with a specific employer on it or you are on implied status (You applied to renew your work authorization before it expired)
  • You are being abused or at risk of being abused in relation to your job in Canada.
WHAT IS ABUSE IN RELATION TO MY JOB?
Abuse can be physical, psychological, sexual, or financial. it includes all behavior intended to scare to control or to intimidate you. Examples of abuse can include:
  • Physical abuse: generally, it is any form of physical contact intended to cause you feelings of pain, injury, or other physical harm such as Hitting, beating, or slapping. Physical abuse can be also such as forcing you to work or live in an environment that puts your health or security at risk.
  • Psychological Abuse: generally, it involves a pattern of intimidation or controlling behaviour such as threats, insults, humiliation, harassment, name-calling, yelling at, ridiculing, shaming, controlling where you can go and who you can visit or be friends with...
  • Sexual Abuse: generally, it includes any situation in which force, or a threat is used to engage in unwanted sexual activity against their will. It can also be unwanted sexual comments addressed to you by the employer...
  • Financial Abuse: such as taking some or all your salary, forcing you to commit fraud, stealing from you....
